The Burst Counter in Nioh 2 is one of the most important aspects of the game. Essentially, it’s more like a dodge counter burst whereas the Brute is a more traditional offensive counter and the Phantom is a more defensive counter. A successful burst counter happens when the burst attack makes contact with that afterimage. It’s a dash-like move that leaves a ghostly image on your trail. Sure most of them you can burst counter or ‘dodge’, but there’s very little wind up and it’s hard to time with anything but feral. They come out instantly and do way too much damage for how often they’re used. The Feral Burst Counter is the most irregular of the three. In Nioh 2, every other attack from an enemy is a grab and they all move halfway across the map to grab you. This is a more traditional defensive Burst Counter. If your guard makes contact with an enemy, you perform a Burst Counter. ![]() The Phantom Burst Counter turns you into a Yokai a second and puts up your guard. A successful parry will often change the camera angle and quickly zoom in on your accomplishment. The timing is fucking ridiculous and the game giving me a tutorial screen every time I fight and die from. Out of 30 fights 2 burst counters worked. I’m fighting the horse guy and I would have killed him most of the fights if I could have just fucking done it at all. You can’t parry most Yokai or most non-human (or human-like) enemies. This game is pissing me off with this fucking burst counter. You can’t parry some moves and it’s usually best left to sword-based moves as those are the most obviously parryable (which are usually from humans). You’ll want to hold down block but press the Square or Triangle button as soon as the attack is about to hit you. No matter the parry, they all have the same general strategy. ![]() Some even have multiple types of parries so you can choose how to get which ones in the Skill Customization menu in the menu screen.ĪLSO: Nioh 2 Review | A splendid, sadistic samurai showdown Most weapons have multiple parries and they’re usually L1 and Square or L1 and Triangle.
